ADVANTAGES OF A COLOR MASTERBATCH FOR PLASTICS

Image
Typically, a masterbatch is available in either a liquid or pellet form and is comprised of a concentrated mixture of pigments, dyes and/or additives to color plastic products. Masterbatch is used in place of fully colored compounded materials largely referred to as pre-color. This option can be more expensive due to volume minimums, inventory requirements and the threat of obsolescence whereas masterbatch mitigates these challenges. The ability to dose the masterbatch with absolute precision is a perfect complement for injection molding and extrusion customers looking to reduce their operating costs. Even after being convinced that masterbatch is a better colorant option, many processors still debate whether liquid or pellet form is the better option? Both have advantages and disadvantages. The one historical advantage liquid has enjoyed over pellet masterbatch has been rooted in economics. That stated, there is new pellet technology that has come on the scene in the last few y...

Plastic Additives Market Research Reports & Industry Analysis Plastics make an appearance in every aspect of our lives—from transportation to medical equipment to telecommunications. Plastics are made from essential polymers commonly mixed or blended with specialty additive materials. Plastic additives provide consumers and other application markets with a diversity of plastic products. A few common categories of additives are antimicrobials, antistatics, antioxidants, fibers, UV stabilizers, and lubricants. While the industry suffered from the economic downturn of the 2000s, companies such as Rohm and Haas’ plastics are optimistically remarking on the strong sales of polymers for PVC applications. Other companies, such as Great Lakes Chemical and AkzoNobel, have not been as fortunate and have announced or already begun company layoffs. In an effort to keep costs of manufacturing down, the additives industry has brought a lot of its production to Asia. The move to countries...

WHAT ARE PLASTIC AND ADDITIVE? Plastic is a common term to describe various synthetic or semi-synthetic materials used in a wide and growing range of applications. Natural products such as cellulose, coal, natural gas, salt, and of course crude oil are used as raw materials in the manufacture of plastics. The additive is a substance added to something in small quantities to improve or preserve it. Plastics additives are all chemicals that are used to polymerize, processor to modify the end-use properties of plastics.  WHAT DO THEY DO? Additives are substances that are needed to produce plastic that is suitable for its intended purpose. The correct choice of additive is essential to ensure the product does what is needed, and additives can considerably alter the properties of a material. WHY ARE ADDITIVES ADDED TO PLASTIC? To avoid plastics materials from getting to be difficult and fragile at moo temperatures, or delicate and sticky at tall temperatures, added substances ar...
